“Menopause is not the end
it’s a transformation
a chance to redefine what matters most
& claim who you are becoming.”
— Christiane Northrup, MD
When things start to feel different
For many women, perimenopause and menopause bring changes that feel confusing or hard to name. Shifts in mood, rising anxiety, brain fog, irritability, poor sleep, lowered tolerance for stress, or a sense of no longer feeling like yourself. Too often, these experiences are minimised, misunderstood, or carried alone.
We now know that perimenopause can begin much earlier than once believed — sometimes in the late 30s or early 40s — and that this phase is closely linked to changes in mental health.
Understanding what’s happening
Early understanding matters. Research shows that women in perimenopause are around 40% more likely to experience symptoms of depression and anxiety than pre-menopausal women. Recognising these changes early can reduce prolonged distress and support emotional wellbeing.

Difficulties can be compounded when symptoms are dismissed as “just stress” or “that time of life.” At EMJ Counselling, you don’t have to push through or minimise your experience. This is a space to slow down and be heard — emotionally, psychologically, and relationally.
Responding with care and clarity
Together, we explore how hormonal change intersects with identity, self-worth, boundaries, and the expectations you’ve carried for years. Counselling isn’t about fixing you. It’s about recognising what your deeper self is asking for, and responding with care.
